On Monday, March 10, eight JHS students spent the day at the City of McHenry building with other area high school students to learn about public policy, Illinois government and the legislative process. In attendance were Brady Fisher, Morgan Geraty, Devyn Hernandez, Brisa Olson, Carson Teschner, Jack Thompson, Tyler White and Olivia Winiarski.
Senator Craig Wilcox is our State Senator for the 52nd District and holds a Youth Advisory Council in the Fall and again in the Spring. The location is different each time from the Lake Villa Public Library in Lindenhurst to City Hall in McHenry.
The topics vary as do the Guest Speakers who for this council included Regional Superintendent of Schools, Diana Hartmann, the Chief of Police for Woodstock, John Lieb, District 124 Superintendent, Christine Sefcik and Police Detective Richard Wistocki. Students worked on a Mock Bill and Hearing and lunch was provided.
It is an amazing opportunity for our students and we look forward to next year!
